Muay Thai/Thai Boxing is a highly effective system of close-quarters combat, utilising punches, kicks, elbows, knees, and the 'clinch' to prevail over an opponent;


Known in kickboxing circles as 'The Art of Eight Limbs' or ‘The King of the Ring'.
Muay Thai มวยไทย, also known as Thai Boxing, is the national sport of Thailand, famous for its powerful kicking technique and its devastating use of elbows and knees. Muay Thai is a ring sport that has evolved from the ancient Siamese war crafts of Krabi Krobong (short and long sword) and Muay Boran (unarmed combat).
Mettle Academy students focus on technique and safe training methods to develop the required skill-set and attributes that this sport demands. Students are exposed to each aspect of the art including boxing combinations, kick-boxing combinations, elbow strike variations, knee strike variations, clinching techniques, takedowns and sparring progressions as well as the Wai Khru Ram Muay ไหว้ครูรำมวย (a war dance performed before a fight to pay respects to your teacher and parents).

Mettle Students are also introduced to other complimentary arts including Pradal Serey /Khun Khmer and Bokator from Cambodia whose techniques and strikes often overlap.
Our training system has been heavily influenced by the World Thai Boxing Association's Ajarn Surachai 'Chai' Sirisute and Ajarn Dan Inosanto, as well as the Thai Boxing Association of South Australia, namely Ajarn Nino Pilla and Khun Kru Alex Ticca.
